Volunteer will continue in activities which current EVS volunteer have started. Volunteer will teach several English classes in the office of hosting organization. The classes will be conducted in the afternoons. Volunteer will continue in classes (some classes are with youth and some with adults) which previous EVS volunteer have started however, new classes can be started as well since the demand for English classes is quite high. The level of the English classes will be mainly beginners. Generally, the level of English in Tkibuli region is rather poor because of the current educational system which is still in transformation.
Volunteer is also mostly welcome to come up with his/her own free time activities for local youth. The local youth do not have many possibilities how to spend free time actively in Tkibuli – usually they are walking around with friends.
Project place description: Tkibuli is situated on Tkibuli region, Georgia (about 3,5 hours from capital Tbilisi). The population is about 14 000 inhabitants. The closest city is Kutaisi which is at the same time the second biggest city in Georgia – It takes about 1,5 hour by marshrutka (local bus) to get there (marshrutkas run all day).
Tkibuli region is one of the least developed in Georgia. The economic activity in the region mostly stopped after the revolution in 1991 and the quality of life decreased significantly. Today´s major problem of the region is high unemployment (about 50%) and migration of people either to different regions or abroad. It is estimated that 1/3 of population left Tkibuli city.
Living conditions: Volunteer will stay in the apartment in Tkibuli together with other EVS volunteer. The apartment is fully equipped and volunteer will have the own room. It takes about 10 minutes walking to get to TDDF´s office. Volunteer will cook by himself/herself.
Requirements: Volunteer should have good knowledge of English and preferably previous teaching experience of any kind. Basic knowledge of Georgian/Russian recommended but not required.
