Volunteer in kindergarten in Germany
The Thünen Straße day-care centre can be found in the North of Leipzig, and cares for 13 toddlers aged between 1 and 3 years old, alongside 33 children of kindergarten age (up to the age of 6). Six pre-school teachers work in the centre together with 2 technical staff. It is open between 6.00 and 17.00.
Leipzig is the second largest city in the Federal State of Saxony, with a
round 500,000 inhabitants. The economy has changed since reunification
in 1989 from one centred around the brown coal and the textile
industries to one of services and research centres; Banks, the Leipzig
trade fairs, the university, and higher education colleges for instance.
Leipzig is well known for its many historical places of interest, for
example, the 'Battle of the Nations' monument, the Thomaskirche and its
world-reknowned choir, as well as the Auerbachskeller in the
Mädlerpassage. Leipzig also has an opera, the Gewandhaus, a modern art
museum, various religious centres, many cafes resteraunts, exhibitions
and galleries as well as lakes, canalös and parks. Leipzig is situated
in the middle of Germany and is easily reached by aeroplane, train and
car.
European volunteers have worked at FAIRbund since 2005 and so far we
have had good good experiences with EVS, which we would like to further
build upon within the day-care centres of the organisation.
The following points will be taken into account when we make our
selection:
- interest in working with small children and an interest in developing
creative ideas to introduce into the daily life of a kindergarten
- interest in learning German and getting to know Leipzig and its
surroundings
- an interest in working with new media.
We are open to working with young people who would like to take part in
EVS, and we have no special preference with regards to the sending
organisation. After we have recieved and looked over the applications,
we will choose a candidate according to their qualities and
qualifications, then we will conduct an interview over the telephone, or
face-to-face if possible to enable both sides to get to know eachother
and ask any questions they micht have in order to make the decision
easier.
