The day-care centre on Mottler Straße can be found in a villa in Gohlis, Leipzig, around 10 minutes away from the city centre. The centre cares for 18 toddlers aged between 1 and 3 years old, and 30 children of kindergarten age. As a result of us working with such a small group, our situation is very comfortable and familiar for the children. Our facilities are open between 6.30 and 17.00. As there is limited space in the garden in front of the house, the children play frequently in the nearby Rosental Park, a part of Leipzig's Auenwald forest.
Leipzig is the second largest city in the Federal State of Saxony, with
around 500,000 inhabitants. The economy has changed since reunification
in 1989 from the brown coal and textile industry, to research centres
and services; banks, the leipzig trade fair, the university and higher
education colleges for instance. Leipzig is well known for its many
historical places of interest, for example the 'Battle of the Nations'
memorial, the Thomaskirche, with its world renowned Choir and the the
Auerbachskeller in the Mädlerpassage. In Leipzig, you can also find the
Gewandhaus, Opera, modern art museum, various religious centres, along
with many cafes and resteraunts, exhibitions and galleries, lakes,
canals, and parks. Leipzig is in the middle of Germany and is easily
reached by car, train or aeroplane.
European volunteers have worked in FAIRbund since 2005. So far, this has
been a good experience, which we would like to build upon further as an
integral part of the work of the day-care centre.
The following points are particularly relevant for the selection of the
volunteer:
- Interest in working with children
- creativity
- sociable charachter and the ability to work as part of a team
- interest in learning German, and getting to know Leipzig and the
surrounding area
We are open to all young people who would like to take part in the
European Voluntary Scheme, and we dont have any special preferences
concerning the sending organisation.
After we have recieved all of the applications, they will be checked
over reviewed with reference to the qualities and qualifications of the
applicants. We will conduct an interview over the telephone, or if
possible face to face, to give both sides the opportunity to get to know
eachother and ask questions, enabling us to reach a decision.
