Volunteer involved in working with people with mental disabilities
Volunteer involved in working with people with mental disabilities
The main theme is Disabilities as the volunteer is involved in work with people with mental disabilities.
Volunteer`s actvity in a flat starts between at 14:30 and finishes after 5 hours. He or she is in a service with an assistant.
Volunteer activities in a flat :
" personal assistance of mentally disabled people in their flats
(cooking, tidying up, getting to work and workshops, going out, looking
after both the personal hygiene and the household, etc.).
" leisure time activities with clients (going for a walk, to a museum or
any other cultural or sport activity).
The schedule of the volunteer in Cafe is planned in this manner - one
day during the week, work time from 14:00 to 20:00. He or she is in a
service with the assistant.
Volunteer activities in Cafe :
" To assist the team members with disabilities in preparing snacks and
beverages and in serving the customers. Our clients need support in
decision making e.g. - choice of right glasses, if the beverage is well
prepared to be served.
" The volunteer can operate with the computer (in the computer spot for
customers) and prepare evidence of the users. Also to teach our clients
how to use the computer or the internet.
" Here are some supplemental activities, where the volunteer can join,
take the whole initiative, or add his\her own ideas. (Opportunity for
photography or painting exhibition, for presentations EVS to the public
in the space of the coffee house.)
After some time, when the volunteer has learned some Czech and feels
comfortable and settled, he/she can take part in making a month schedule
for flats and in that way influence his/her own monthly schedule. This
way volunteer is to learn to organize his/her time and assert oneself.
The volunteer will have chance to carry out any of her/his own projects
within the projects of Sheltered housing of St. Michael mentioned above.
There is a range of options: a national party to introduce volunteers
country, concert organizing in the Café, exhibition of pictures, photos
of the volunteer in the Café and in the house of Sheltered housing, etc.
It mostly depends on the volunteer interests.
Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
While there are three types of EVS we seek three types of volunteers.
For individual EVS we seek a volunteer who is open to work with mentally
impaired people and is willing to get to know their way of
communication and enter their different world. The volunteer should also
be willing to learn Czech. The volunteer should be older then 18, while
our clients are adults. For a younger person the service could be too
difficult.
For group EVS we seek volunteers open to work in international team
participate in all outdoor activities and trips. Volunteers lives all
together in one house so a will to tolerance is good to have. And the
volunteers should be willing to communicate. We prefer volunteers over
25 years, but we accept younger volunteers too.
Individual EVS involving young people with fewer opportunities we seek
volunteer with developmental disability. This person should be willing
to learn to work in a café. The volunteer will be chosen on an
individual arrangement.
We would like to be in touch with the sending organization for a longer
time and have a good relationship. We expect the sending organization to
know the volunteer well and inform us about possible barriers. Sending
organization should prepare the volunteer for the EVS service and stay
in touch with our organization as well as the volunteer.
