Volunteers at community schools and Youth centres
We cooperate with some schools and youth centers in our region their program is aimed at a development of the community life. Those schools and centres have a wide after schools activities and good example work with children with special needs. Work with children on the position an assistant of leader in leisure activities - after school activities, language activities, sport activities, school trips. To assist disabled students during school and after school time, especially during sport activities. Cooperation on the occasional projects of our organization, especially during after school activities, training for youth leaders , summer camps etc. Creating a project on his/her own, bringing new ideas.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
Our organisation's main aim and motivation is to bring in a new element
of the contact with a European culture. We wish to create new
partnerships with a positive influence on the local community. We intend
to prepare enough space for volunteer's new ideas and experience.
He/she can take a course of the Czech language, a training for camp
organisers, a climbing training.
The volunteers can participate in the following activities:
- Teaching the youth of Nachod and the Czech-Polish frontier area about
the EU programmes for youth, with accent on Youth in Action and the
Eurodesk database
- Organising workshops under the Youth in Action programme for secondary
schools in Nachod
- Building websites about European programmes for youth - in English and
German
- Intercultural programmes in the HEC Youth Club - "Heart of Europe
Club"
- Promotion and graphic compilation of data
- Help with preparing and organising leisure events, summer camps, etc.
- Help with preparing and organising of spontaneous and occasional
events
(for schools, nursery schools, the public)
- Workshops for dance, ceramics, language, art and music
- The volunteers can bring their own ideas for activities and can use
their own
skills at work - lead some workshops themselves, having Decko staff only
as a tutor.
Suggested activities:
Monday: English for small children (5 - 7 years)
Tuesday: volleyball (6 - 10 years), Take It Easy - English conversation
(15 - 30 years)
Wednesday: Shooting (8 - 12 years)
Thursday: HEC - a European youth club (15 - 18 years)
Friday: ICM - a youth information centre: an open club for youth (8 - 18
years)
In the mornings, occasional activities for kindergartens and primary
schools; organisational help at public events.
The accommodation for volunteers is situated close to the main building,
in a house in the garden of Decko.
The language course will take place in Decko, with an experienced
teacher.
Meals - the volunteer will get the money for food; he/she usually
prepares breakfast and supper at home and takes lunch (the main meal of
the day) in a local restaurant together with other Decko employees.
Pocket money - the volunteer is given pocket money in cash at the
beginning of each month.
The mentor - will be fully at the volunteer's disposal. The person
speaks several world languages.
Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
Volunteer profile: We expect a comparably independent, creative and
adaptable young person, able to work in a team.
Volunteer offer advertisement: Our project is found in the Eurodesk
database; the project description there contains possible activities of
the volunteer in our organisation.
Compliance of organisation needs and voluteer interests: the volunteer
should be interested in children and activities for them.
Working with children necessitates volunteer's ability to communicate
patiently, his/her positive attitude to children, and his/her social
abilities such as open-mindedness, empathy, tolerance and cooperation.
Volunteer activity is no job position: The volunteers will help with
activities run by Decko staff or by external instructors. However, they
will take over no responsibility. The presence of a volunteer will give
the activities a European dimension and enhance the clients' interest in
European culture and in other young people's lifestyle.
