Working with children with autism
Working with children with autism
Participation in afternoon activities, planing and implementing events and administrative work will be required for this EVS.
The presence of a volunteer in our organisation is definitely very
enriching not only for us but for the volunteer as well. The work topic
is specific. Volunteer interacts with autistic child. This situation
creates a new perspective and interesting contrasts - a Slovak child
with autism and healthy volunteer from abroad. The volunteer will learn
how to adapt himself/herself to the concept of "being different" and
will understand the difference which is always omnipresent in our
organisation. Moreover, we can offer a comfortable working environment.
The volunteers´ tasks will be to help preparing things necessary for
daily activities, participating in the activities and giving a feedback
to other members of the staff who create the programme. Afterwards,
he/she will be able to propose some new own ideas to improve provided
services and will be conducive to the organisation. Our intent is to
integrate the volunteer into all of our daily activities, especially in
the afternoon hours. In that period, there are various therapies in
SPOSA which are led by experienced persons. The volunteer will be
involved in those sessions and assist during the activities.
Consequently, there will be activities which support the autistic
client's training of the self-service activities in the kitchen. The
volunteer will also have the possibility to cook his/ her national food
or preferable food, bake cakes typical for his/ her region. As mentioned
above, his/her support of administrative work, such as preparing
conferences and meetings or preparation of workshops is always helpful.
- Participation in afternoon activities (therapies), irregular
activities such as St. Nicolas, winter and summer cams, the National
Children´s Day, preparing the programme, taking photos during the
activities
>Our intent is to integrate the volunteer to all of our daily
activities, especially in the afternoon hours. In that period, there are
various therapies in SPOSA, which are led by experienced persons. Each
autistic child has its own session according to the level of disorder,
as it is important to have it alone. The volunteer will be involved in
those sessions and assist during the activities. Consequently, there
will be activities, which support the autistic client's training of the
self-service activities in the kitchen. The volunteer will also have the
possibility to cook his/ her national food or preferable food, bake
cakes typical for his / her region.
- We would welcome a volunteer who is creative in art. We would be happy
to provide a space for him or her to create something new and useful
for interaction with children with autism.
- Our organization needs to spread knowledge of autism among people. We
would need help and new ideas to get more effective with public events
and awareness of autism.
-Administrative work, going to the Post Office
>Even if there are employees responsible for the administration,
there is always a helping hand needed in the office for copying
documents, sorting the files and documents as well as checking our post
box at the post office.
We welcome any kind of initiative of the volunteer.
Other activities which are suitable for the volunteer are:
- Taking photographs and making videos during various activities
(therapies, community sessions with the families, St. Nicolaus event,
winter and summer camps, the National Children´s Day)
- After being trained, the volunteer has the chance to help uploading
files on the internet website of SPOSA. In addition, the volunteer can
give his/her creativity full scope by contributing new ideas to refresh
or improve the website, its graphic design and layout.
- Attending trips with families and healthy sibling
