Description of organisation and environment
The Youth Aggregation Centre "Geyser" was founded in 1994 by the
Municipality of Pesaro, since territorial needs requested a dedicated
space for the youth and pre-youth population. The Centre is a
stimulating place where young people can meet, have fun and spend their
time in a constructive way, by following the common rules of living and
respecting the structure and the material supplied by the comune within
an informal environment. The Centre has different working areas and it
is directed towards preventing the social exclusion through both
animation activities and free congregation among the young people. At
the same time we try to include in the Centre young people coming from
socio-cultural disadvantaged environments.
Two professional educators work permanently in the Centre. The Staff,
composed of the mentioned educators, the Responsable of the
Socio-Relationl Department, the Co-ordinator of the Youth Centres and
the Person in Charge for the EVS project, is a reference point for the
european volunteers both for the educational activities and the
personal needs and it is in charge for inclusion of the volunteer in
the work place and in the wider context of the local community. Beside
that the Staff has the same role with regard to the Italian trainees
and the national civil service volunteers integrated in the Centre. In
particular, the Coordinator of the Youth Centres of Pesaro, ensures the
regular and correct functioning of the Centre "Geyser" and is
responsible for the programming of activities, of their internal
organisation and testing of the programmes that have been realised. It
represents a reference and technical support for the job of the
operators and at the same time surveys and checks activities and
educational paths. The introduction of the European volunteers in the
Youth Centre "Geyser" is made by the Staff and consists in a welcome
moment during which the volunteer is gradually introduced to the kind
of service he/she will be doing and to the organisational aspects, the
people involved, the type of intervention, the aims and the theoretical
issues related to the single activities. At the end of the initial
introduction, the Staff confirms or redefines the activities and the
tasks of the European volunteers according to the needs both of the
volunteers themselves and of the structure and working in strict
collaboration with the educators of the centre. The Staff together with
the young volunteers, spend time and resouces in order to carry on an
autentique relation with the young people of the centre paying
attention to their needs and prblems and encouraging the self promotion.
The strong point of the service is therefore the interaction between
the staff and the adolescents that attend the Youth Centre.
Activities of supervision, that mark out the functioning of the service, by youth workers and, are planed volunteers.
Tasks
Volunteers will support the Staff in the realization of the several
activities made by the Youth Centre. They will have the opportunity to
acquire further competence learning and comparing the different ways of
working. This gradual process of learning that we hope will make the
volunteers more aware of their own skills, will also favour some
specific acquirements, especially those related to organisational,
relational, communication and also language skills. We consider the
volunteers as a real resource and believe that through the European
Voluntary Service some personal resources can and must be valued.
Volunteers should help to introduce an intercultural dimension in our
activities and projects. We will therefore focus on the aspect of help
that the young volunteers will bring to the Centre with different
approaches from the usual ones and we will stress the social
educational value of this experience, since they come from a different
cultural environment. The social and educational value of those new
experiences will also be emphasized throught our Youth Politics
Department. We cannot deny that the choice of European instead of
Italian volunteers rises from the need to let out youth establish a
contact with different cultures and trigger out their curiosity ad
desire to open up to cultural approach and learn new languages.
Intercultural confrontation and dialogue are becoming two fundamental
aspects of our centre. Volunteers will be supported by The Municipality
of Pesaro, throught the specific Staff composed of the Responsable of
the Socio-Relationl Department, the Co-ordinator of the Youth Centres
and the Person in Charge for the EVS project, trhat will take care of
their introduction to the job, planning, organisation and monitoring of
the activities. Volunteers will also have regular meeting with their
tutor and with the staff of the Municipality of Pesaro, including also
the two educators of the Social Cooperative and regular meeting with
the Co-ordinatingOorganisation. In particular the internal instruments
and procedures for the testing, monitoring and evaluation of the
activities of the European volunteer are structured as follows:
- quarterly meetings among the European volunteers, the O.U. Social Relation Responsible and the Responsible of the project;
- meetings between the Responsible of the Project of the Municipality of Pesaro and the Person in Charge for the EVSproject;
- weekly meetings with the educational staff of the project.
The European volunteers are also asked to participate to specific
moments of survey organised by the Local Administration and to the
monthly plenary meetings that involve all the educators, the young
volunteers and the trainees employed in the service at the presence of
the Coordinator of the Youth Centres of the Municipality of Pesaro.
Further instruments will be the intermediate and final reports written
by the volunteers and the initial introductive phase where it will be
possible to check the developing of the project and its final result.
