Youth Center from Germany offers great EVS opportunity for one young european
The volunteer will participate in all activities of the youth centre.
The youth centre Lengerich is an urban youth centre and is additionally
promoted by the country North-Rhine Westphalia and the district
Steinfurt. By open youth work children and young people are supposed to
be addressed to, who are not merged in organising of their free time
and/or by activities in associations and federations. Areas and other
possibilities are ordered to meet with others of the same age
independently of the parents' house and school. In this way contacts
can be attached, own interests be unfolded. From competent co-workers
the children and young people receive assistance and support. The legal
basis of the open children - and youth work is the child and juvenile
welfare service law in the VIII SGB, in which the right of young people
is the promotion of their development and to education to own
community-able personality.
For the open child and youth work typical is so-called open range of
the youth centre. In addition a Cafeteria with kicker, billiard,
society plays and internet accesses, a disco, tea corner, table tennis
area and an exterior installation with seat opportunities. In addition
working groups (WG) are offered and cared for educationally.
These are: break-dance WG, cafeteria WG, football WG, different groups
of dances, video-clip-dance, clay/tone studio, training rooms for
volume, beat studio for Hip Hop, video WG. Further offers are concerts,
holiday offers such as camps and child celebrations as well as sex and
old-specific offers.
The co-workers team consists of 2 social teachers, 1 female social
teacher, 1 psychologist, trainee, qualified free and honorary workers.
The youth centre is opened daily except on Mondays in the time from
3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 2.00 p.m. to
8.00 p.m. The youth centre is also an approach place for all questions
about the youth work in Lengerich. The city Lengerich has 23,000
inhabitants and is situated on the so-called sun terrace of the
Tetoburg forest between the cities Münster and Osnabrück. The central
centre Lengerich has excellent traffic route nets to motorways, binding
to the German train connection, channel port and with an international
airport in direct proximity. Who wants to experience the Teutoburg
forest as a cyclist, should miss Lengerich in no case. Lengerich is the
ideal starting point for interesting cycling routes by the western
Tecklenburg country. Many historical buildings such as property
Erpenbeck in Ringel or the Romans in the midst of the attractive
Lengerich city centre, the city hall, the protestant town church and
the water castle Vortlage make Lengerich architecturally and
art-historically a very interesting trip goal. In addition 3 camping
sites with in each case a bath lake and vacation homes as well as
maintained hotels contribute to a varied and a recovery seed vacation.
The economic structure Lengerichs is extremely various. Outstanding
industries are mechanical engineering, the packaging industry, the
cement industry, the catering trade and the agriculture. The number of
citizens with migration history is 10%. In particular many Turkish
citizens, who came in the 80-ies as so-called immigrant workers is
above average high; just like the number of the Russian-Germans, who
immigrated after 1990 to the Federal Republic. This led the formation
of parallel society to special problem situations in living together of
different cultures in Lengerich, with the typical accompaniments. The
youth centre Lengerich takes part already for over 10 years as a
hosting organization for European volunteers and has cared for
altogether 18 volunteers. In the summer 2005 we could organise a youth
meeting in Sweden.
The volunteer should bring an international atmosphere in the centre,
in order to arouse interest in other cultures and different ways of
life. Direct contacts and meetings with young people from the European
neighbour countries are urgently necessary and meaningful.
The volunteer is a member of the educational team and supports the
general educational and organizational work in the youth centre and
will learn how teamwork functions with co-workers of the youth work.
The volunteer is cared for by a mentor during the entire duration of
the service and meets them regularly.
The volunteer will receive support from the team, in order to be
integrated into the project, into the country and into the culture.
The volunteer will be promoted to bring their own ideas, creativity and
experiences to the development of the project. The work is aligned at
the abilities and the interests of the volunteer. They will participate
in all activities of the youth centre.
Concrete tasks are:
- Partner in the meeting place /café
- Offering of leisure activities depending upon authority (e.g. music, video, computer)
- Support of music groups, which practice in the centre
- Organising and presentation of info- materials about the European
community, the homeland of the volunteer and other important youth
information
- Work times Tuesday - Friday from 1.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Likewise
there will be also some work time on the weekends. This will be
discussed in advance with the volunteer.
The week plan looks as follows:
The open range:
Within the open range the children and young people could receive in a
social educationally cared for system, an area for self determined
spare time. Since in particular the weekends are important for the
leisure activities of young people, the youth centre is also opened on
Saturdays and Sundays.
For some visitors arising conflicts and their solution represent a
problem. The social educationally cared for system contains therefore
the training of the social behaviour.
The composition of the age groups within the open range is 11 - 13 years old (30%) and 14 - 17 years old (50%).
The working groups (WG)
Working groups set at the desires and interests of children and young
people. They promote group-dynamic processes, which are accompanied
educationally by the co-workers. The working groups take place parallel
to the open enterprise and are characterised by attractiveness and
variety. The full-time co-workers are here demanded to motivate young
people to meaningful leisure activities and induce them to create a
working group or to follow an existing one. The weekly review of the
working groups in the youth centre Lengerich.
The volunteer should be in particular communicative and have no fear to
go toward strange, new people. It would be good, if there were already
present some experiences in the work with children and young people.
Creativity and ideas as well as self initiative and independence are
desired. The volunteer should at least surf in the Internet and know
the function of the email.
We co-operate with all assignment
organizations. Favourable would be organizations, which work with
children and young people and have some experiences in the work with
foreign young people.
The supporting organization provides an appropriate accommodation
possibility for the volunteer. According to the place of the project,
the volunteer will live in Ibbenbüren or Westerkappeln in a dwelling,
which many volunteers are sharing or in the accommodation of the
clinical center Ibbenbüren. Here the volunteer has its own room,
kitchen and a bath are common rooms, which are available for several
persons.
Between the tutor and the volunteer periodically conversations will
take place in order to accompany progress and to help the volunteer
with the solution of probably arising problems. Additionally the tutor
guarantees the receive of continual support for the volunteer.
For the first time in the project a training plan will be arranged.
Volunteers receive each necessary support for the realization of their
tasks and enough time to get into the new job.
The training plan will help in the integration in the local district and the project surrounding field.
The supporting organization ensures that the volunteer participates in
the on-arrival-training and the mid-term-meeting. EVS- volunteers
receives an appropriate language training during their stay, which is
organized by the supporting organization.
Co-workers of the supporting organization look after the volunteer and
will take care. They are also organizing meetings, which take place
every 4-6 weeks, where all volunteers of the region meet each other. In
special meetings they become acquainted intensively with the German
culture. In the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the EVS a
conversation between the volunteer, the tutor and the supporting
organization takes place and there are special meetings only for the
tutors, where they can exchange their experiences. The
youth-welfare-office has developed some quality-standards, which
includes the on-arrival-conversation and the mid-term-conversation and
also a questionnaire, which is to be filled by the tutor and the
volunteer in the beginning of the EVS.
