We got information about the possibilities of YOUTH program last year
on the info day for the YOUTH program. It was organized by Youth Forum
EYE and took place in Skopje. There we got interested in hosting EVS
volunteer that could work with us on our projects.
We have talked to some of the EVS volunteers in order to get more
inside information about their work, living conditions and etc. In
January, on the meeting of the board of our organization, we decided to
apply for EVS project.
Our motivation was that EVS volunteer will help a lot in finding more
information for possibilities for young people abroad. Moreover, having
EVS volunteer will hep us to boost motivation of our local volunteers
and for the project "Youth Info Centre - Connected YOUTH".
That is why we applied for it and in August we got our first EVS volunteer from Poland.
Youth Council of Gazi Baba can offer a lot of learning opportunities
for the volunteer. Upon arrival, there will be an introduction to Youth
Council of Gazi Baba, where the volunteer will be made familiar with
the premises and facilities of Youth Council of Gazi Baba, as well as
introduced to the staff. In the second step, he/she will get more
insight in the functioning of each work area, the related project
details and get to know the staff persons that are in charge of the
implementation.
During the first months the volunteer will be learning more about the
work and getting new skills, so as to be able to work on the project.
He/she will receive general information about Macedonia and will take
an intensive Macedonian language course (3 times per week).
The volunteer will be also informed about the Town of Skopje and
Municipality of Gazi Baba. It is very important to underline that we
will have meetings with the volunteers during the first months on which
we will try to present the situation of the National Strategy for Young
people in Macedonia and the possible role of our organization and
Municipality in this strategy. Cooperation between NGOs and
Municipalities is of great importance, as the volunteer will be working
in some projects together with the Municipality of Gazi Baba.
Information about ICL and Ethnicities in Macedonia will also be
presented to the volunteer. With this, we will help the volunteer to
realise the differences and possibilities that she/he will have in the
work with young people from various nationalities and religions.
The volunteer will have a supervisor in the project that will be
responsible for coordination of projects activities. Additionally, the
volunteer will have a mentor, a person who is not directly included in
the activities of the Youth Council of Gazi Baba.
The volunteer will be introduced to the local community that she/he
will be working with, because in any kind of youth work in this area it
is very important to know the local surrounding and the people.
The volunteer will have on-arrival training after coming to Macedonia,
on which the professional information on the rights, responsibilities,
ICL, crisis management and etc will be provided. This training will be
carried out by international trainers and together with at least 5
other EVS volunteers in Macedonia.
The volunteer will receive full training needed for him/her to conduct
a given tasks. The volunteer will not be left alone to perform his
work.
The general structure of work of the volunteer will be as follows:
The first month will be more of an introductory period. Within this
time, the on-arrival training for the volunteer will be organised.

for the project work to the volunteer in the first months. Also the
concrete work on the project will start with the lower intensity during
the first month.
