Youth Information Center - Cultural Bridges, Bulgaria
A lot of our activities are connected with scouts. For our projects we prefer volunteers that are already active or have experiences as scouts or guides, who will also serve as a resource for our scout and guide leaders in our district, who has interest in scouting, open for new experiences, interest in meeting new people, able to fit in existing team and to work independently, able to organize exchange activities and workshops.
Project environment
NGO "Youth informational voluntary center " (YIVC):
Our team consists of young people with varied experience in organizing youth activities. Our five coordinators have participated in seminars and trainings in Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Spain and Italy, focusing on youth policy and action. Three of the members have volunteered on projects under the European YOUTH programme in Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, thus acquiring extensive experience in areas such as youth policy, youth information, the media, communications and environmental issues, working with individuals from vulnerable groups and minority communities.
A special unit within our team are particularly interested in the collection, exchange and dissemination of youth information, the media and communications. Two of their members coordinate the daily activities on the youth radio programme aired online and in several high-schools in the city. They consult and provide technical support to some twenty young people from these schools who prepare and present the radio shows. In developing their skills in journalism, the young people receive
professional advice from our partners in the local media.
Currently we coordinate 42 volunteers who have undergone special training and participated in various youth projects worldwide.
The Youth Centre is an accredited receiving and sending institution in volunteer exchange under the Youth in Action programme of the European Union. We hold a licence to provide the full range of social services to the community as issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
We would like to exchange experience and ideas about working with youths, and to make contacts with foreign organizations, with the help of EVS volunteers. We think that the collaboration among the volunteers, sending organizations, our organization- as a host, and the local youth community will enrich the multicultural and the international importance of our work. Our intention is to include the volunteers in the local youth activities, which we plan, and to exchange experience, skills and ideas in different areas with their participation. The project will give an
opportunity for the volunteers to learn more about the life in Bulgaria, the unique nature, the rich culture and history, the language. The volunteers will work as a part of our team in daily work in Youth informational center. . At the beginning, they will have a period of time to adapt themselves. They will go then to know us, our work, the different activities, they will begin to learn our culture and language. After this adaptation period, depending on the personal preference and skills, they
will participate in our campaigns for means and volunteers for different local and international projects. Part of their time they will have the opportunity to prepare and lead different open-air activities for leisure time, such as: sport competitions, excursions, and camps. We will encourage the volunteers to prepare and apply their own ideas about efficient use of the free time of the young people and about popularization of the voluntary activities. We would like the volunteer to
feel free to discuss with us his/her ideas and to propose different iniciatives. He/she must have a wish to work with children and young people, to have organizational skills.
Hosting organization is going to make selection for new volunteers in the beginning of August.
