PROJECT ENVIRONMENT

Kaunas is situated in the middle of Lithuania. It is the second largest city in Lithuania and situated 120 km from the capital Vilnius.
Kaunas is situated at the confluence of the rivers Neris and Nemunas, experienced many other periods of great prosperity and national importance.
Kaunas with nearly 400 thousand inhabitants is one of the most significant cities of Lithuania. It is not only a city of old traditions, but also a large centre of business and industry. It can also lay claim to be a city of young people with over 35,000 students studying at one of the seven universities here.
Hundreds of years of cultural heritage is preserved in the historical and architectural monuments, museums, theatres, art galleries and churches of Kaunas. In Kaunas we are proud of the importance that our people have played in contributing towards making the rich cultural, historical, and academic tapestry that is Lithuania.
Kaunas is also called "the most lithuanian city" in Lithuania. Every year there are about 30 international volunteers in Kaunas as well as many Erasmus students. Volunteering in Kaunas is a great possibility to get in touch with Lithuanians and people from all over the world. Youth Job Center is situated in a very modern and well- equipped building. All employees in Youth Job Center speak English. The volunteers can use a computer and internet for their needs.


ACTIVITIES

A volunteers in Youth Job Centre can develop communication skills, organizing, consulting and presenting, language skills and social skills. The volunteer can gain new experiences, grow as a person, learn aobut other cultures and get a different view of oneself.

The aims and activities for the volunteers in Youth job centre:

- To organise and implement English and other popular language (German, French, Spanish, Itallian, Russian) clubs for Youth Job Center clients (it is one of the ways to motivate young people to learn new language, to communicate and improve language skills); 55 % of the volunteering time.
- To present their own culture of their own country - to the Yoth Job Center clients and social partners - it may be in different forms - doing presentation, preparing the food, teaching some national songs, showing movies and so on. 5 % of the volunteering time.
- to spread the idea of volunteering between youth, who come to Youth Job Center to get information about situation in labour market and marketable professions, job vacancies, ways to seek for a job, institutions of education and vocational training - 10 % of the volunteering time.
- Help in organizing conferences, seminars, in hosting some international partners of Youth Job Center - 5 % of the volunteering time
- To support everyday work (assist to Youth Job Center consultants with technical work, with translations to english, or other languages CVs, motivation letters and other documents, making leaflets and so on.) 25 % of the volunteering time.
- Volunteer have posibility to offer and implement their initiatives.


PROFILE OF VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer should be sociable, tolerante, capable to teach other people, able to work in the team, and also motivated to work in Youth Job center.
Secondly it is useful to have a good knowledge of English, more languages are an advantage.
We are oppend to all the sending organizations, specially working with youth information topic, and unemployed young people.
