A. Project environment

The "Jugendhaus Stift Göttweig" is located in a very magnificent and interesting country side of Lower Austria. (The Stift Göttweig is situated on a hill - accessible by car, by bike or by feet) This region is called "Wachau" There are a lot of wineyards. The "Jugendhaus Stift Göttweig" is direct situated in one part of the monestery Stift Göttweig. This is a "Benediktiner" monestery - there live and work monks. The part of the youthhouse is separate from the monastery - So we have a own input area.

The "Jugendhaus Stift Göttweig" is about 80 kilometers from Vienna and about 20 kilometers from St. Pölten (the capital of lower austria) The nearest city is Krems (about 10 kilometers). This twon has a population of 25.000 people. There are a lot of schools, a university and an academy. In Krems there are about 8.000 pupils and students.

The volunteer should work in all fields - together with the team of the youth house.

In addition the volunteer should be open minded (especially in relation to the church and the life in a monstery) The volunteer should accept the monks and their faith - their way to live.

Accomodation/ Volunteer:

The volunteer will live in Krems (by a host familiy or in a flat together with students or other young persons,…)

The volunteer can go by train to the youth house. A driving licence is not necessary.

Transport of the volunteer/ public life/ free time:

Göttweig is very close to Krems. This village offers a lot of possibilities for example (cinemas, pub´s and discos, different events, museums and shops) So the volunteer can go by bus, train or he/ she can go together with the monks. We can also offer a transport possibility.

We also stay in contact with other hosting organisations of lower Austria and we plan some free time activities wit the volunteers. (the coordinating organisation will support our plans). We also offer some free time activities for example we have a library, a club area, the volunteer can play table tennis, pool and other games. He can watching TV, listen music,…

Learning outcomes:

During his EVS the volunteer should learn more about his own personality. We think it is a special experience to live together with monks. (So he will have the possibility to make a view behind monastary walls and meet monks at their daily life.). He should learn to develop own ideas and to work in a team.

Moreover he/ she will learn more about working together with youngsters and youth groups from different countries.

Volunteer tasks:

We would like to have one volunteer. The volunteer should be involved in the daily work of the Jugendhaus Stift Göttweig and he/she should also be involved in our daily work.

B Proposed Activities

The main tasks of the volunteer are:

" Support our team by their daily work (administrative work, planing events, clarify special needs for different groups like special diet, book different excursions for the youth groups,…)

" Care for host groups (organise accomodations) being available for questions, make copies, organize different excursions - a team member will help the volunteer,…

" Plan and organise own ideas like different events (for example workshops about the own home country, outdoor activiies,…)

" Assist our staff by different activites for example educational activities, outdoor activities (discover the forest, "gruselnacht in the monestary", mystery ralley in the monastery,…)

" Create flyers, posters, invitations for the different events,… together with the youngesters

" Be active by regular teammeetings - develop own ideas,…

" Arrange areas for different meetings, events,…

" Administrative work (telephone calls, arrange accomodations for youth gropus,..)

The volunteer should be interested in working with youngsters from different backrounds. He or she should be interested in learning more about austria (language, traditions and costums, people and culture). In addition the volunteer should inform us (and the youngsters) about the own home country. For example cooking tradtional meals, present some information about the home country,…

He or she should be involved in our regular team meetings. The volunteer should have own ideas for projects and events.

A typical day in the organisation:

10:00 - 10:30 Team meeting - planning activities for the day -

10:30 - 12:00 Preparation time - time for administrative work

12:00 - 13:00 Lunch time (together with the team)

13:00 - 17:00 Being available for our guest (school classes, Jungschargruppen,…)

Sometimes we offer special events on the weekends for example host night in the monastery,… by these events the volunteer should support our team to arrange different things, like room for the event, special needs, make copies, care for the children,…

The volunteer will have about 12 days (6 months) and 24 days (12 months) in his/ her disposal

The volunteer has two days off per week.

Possible holidays are the school vacancies, these are two weeks around Christmas, one week in winter (January/ February), two weeks Easter holidays and the whole July and August.

We would like to discuss all applications with the whole team. The Youth Information Centre of Lower Austria (Co Ordinating organisation) will support us. We are open to work with different partners from Europe.

E. Risk Prevention and safety

Our staff will support the volunteer by the daily work. Our team will spend enough time with the volunteer as necessary. The volunteer will also have a personal mentor, he or she will be available for questions, crisis management, …

Also the coordinating organisation will be available for questions, problems,…

The mentor of the volunteer will also be a person from the coordinating organisation.

By all activities the volunteer will be supported by trained persons.
